Re: Robin Adair's desc.

The Revolutionary soldier, Robert Adair who married Miss Sidney, the daughter of Sir John Sidney/Sydney (according to an 1850 biography) was apparently NOT the son of Robin and Caroline Keppel Adair as noted in Shirley's reply 27 Jun 2000 [see #1650]. However, other correspondence in this string seems to put light on the subject. In #1651 Shirley notes that The Adairs were friends of the Pitt family, and a Sir John Pitt was the Earl of Sydney. He seems to have used the name Sir John Sydney (Sidney)as was the custom. The response #3039, by Alexander Sydney-Aitken, confirms that with the observation that two Pitts, father and son, were Prime Ministers of England which upon retiring were given a peerage. Sir John Sydney/Sidney later became the earl of Leichester upon the death of his brother. This seems to open the possibility that a daughter of this Sir John Pitt/Sydney/Sidney may have been the wife of Robert Adair, my Revolutionary soldier ancestor.
Could Shirley or Alexander provide the source for the Pitt/Adair connection and the information on the succession of brother John Pitt to the peerage, earl of Leichester upon his brothers death. Thanks for the info...Ed
