I have found Rootsweb rcords that say William Miles Adair married Parthenia Harmon "about 1862;" but William was on active duty with General Grant's Missippi River Command at that time. Grant was garrisoned at Cairo IL for some weeks prior to the Battle of Vicksburg, attempting to position forces to besiege the city.Given the relatively short distance from Cairo to Parthenia's hometown of Swanwick, Perry County, IL, it's possible that William travelled home to marry her during this time, although I have no records that he did. The only furlough for his unit that I can find was after Vicksburg fell on 4 July 1863. His son William J. Adair is recorded as born 25 May 1863.
