Carol,
If she tried to trace him and found that he was already married she must have known what country he was from. Do you still have the information on the Regiment? If not, Do a couple of things
1. Check a county(shire) history and see what millitary units were posted in the area during this period. You should be able to get company and regiment information.
2.Then write for records from the corresponding countries. Adelsbach is not a common name and you will probably be able to come up with it.
If you need more suggestions use the direct email and I will try to give you some suggestions or information on the next steps.
