I have a question for anyone that just might have knowledge on this.
I was told by the Micmac tribe in Maine that if my family were located in Aroostook County in Maine I could join the tribe, but my family came from Canada and went to Massachusetts instead. I've read somewhere that Maine was part of Massachusetts way back then. Does anyone know if Boston or North Weymouth was part of Aroostook County in Maine? Also, does anyone know why I would not be eligible to join if I have all the documentation back to my Micmac ancestors in Nova Scotia, Canada? I am registered with CMC in Canada, which is Canadian Metis Council. Since I live in the U.S. and born here they seem to be the only people who will acknowledge my french/Micmac heritage. Can someone help me to understand the tribes reasoning on this matter? Any suggestions would be appreciated too. Thank you!
