I am soliciting help finding information on my great-grandparents: Information from my grandfather's death certificate provides the name of my great-grandfather, John DORRIS, and the maiden name, but not the given name, of my great-grandmother, Miss PAINTER. The death certificate says John was born in GA, Miss PAINTER born in Alabama, and both lived in Alabama when their son, William Edward DORRIS, my grandfather, was born. Just WHERE in Alabama is an unknown. Time frame is: my grandfather was born June 7, 1874. There is family hearsay that Miss PAINTER was Native American, probably Choctaw though some claim Cherokee. I do not know whether John DORRIS and Miss PAINTER had additional offspring other than William Edward DORRIS, though given the practice of the time it is probable there were other children. None are known to have migrated to Louisiana with William Edward. By 1899, William Edward DORRIS was in Ouachita Parish (West Monroe) LA and that year married my grandmother, Mary Josephine (White) DORRIS, who was the daughter of Green and Elizabeth White of Natchitoches, LA. Almost nothing is known of his life prior to this marriage. I've had no success finding anything on John DORRIS And Miss PAINTER on census, marriage, birth, or other area. Any information you may have would be appreciated. Russ Notify Administrator about this message?
