It has taken a while, but I finally have an idea who these folks were.
A John Whalen has posted a limited listing of this family possibly derived from the Subject Bible at http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:2449965&id=I521322153
And, there are scans of some family Bible pages for them at http://www.ancestorhunt.com/aikins-bible-images.htm
Whether these are the same Bible or not, I do not know.
William L appears to be a grandson of James and Roseannah Aikin, buried at the Old Eagle School, Tredyffrin, Chester County, PA
James *could* be related to my Robert Aikins family [or not].
