Does anyone have any idea when the extra "l" was added? My name has the 2 l's, and my gggrandfather's name was Ambrose Allchin with 2 l's. He was born in 1865, and lived in Montcalm towmship, Eureka township.

I have a picture of him with his wife Leaffa (Huver)and his family including his grandson, Claire. Claire was my great grandpa.
