I am working on the Chester Co, PA ALEXANDERs also, in part to see whether there 'could' be any relationship with the Iredell Co, NC Gabriel Alexander and his brother Allen Ulysses Alexander.
I have had to put my research away for the holidays, but I am beginning to 'suspect' that there "may" have been TWO Gabriel Alexander's in Chester -- but the situation is quite muddy. There was 'a' Gabriel who purchased a tract in Chester Co, PA in 1720. A 1726 land dispute shows him with a son, Zaccheus, who is listed as a 'freeman' (meaning 21 years old) in 1725. "This" Gabriel Alexander/son Zaccheus seem to disappear from New London, Chester Co, PA tax lists after 1730. "This" Gabriel seems quite a bit older that Rebecca (Alexander) Emmitt -- just based on his 1720 land purchase.
Presuming that Rebecca Emmitt was the daughter of the John Alexander(wife Susanna) who died bet 1762/64, I don't see that her 'presumed' brother, Gabriel (with a son named Josias/h) ever appears on Chester Co tax lists -- but I am not certain I have found ALL early tax lists for PA. The John Alexander(wife Susanna) does NOT have a descendant in the DNA project -- that we know of. Indications are that a descendant should match the DNA of the group on the DNA project called the Seven Brothers/Two Sisters -- but there are no guarantees that the DNA would match since John/Susanna can't be definitively tied to any of the Seven Brothers/Two Sisters. [We have about eight participants whose DNA shows a close relationship to the Seven Brothers group, but their paper trails do not go far enough back in time to 'document' how they are related to the Seven Brothers. In total, we have about 33 men whose DNA puts them into the Seven Brothers/Two Sisters family.]
Recently, I've also done some research on the Augusta Co, VA Gabriel Alexander. He apparently did NOT have a son named Josias/h. We have been in contact with a descendant of the Augusta Gabriel (through his son Francis) and she is attempting to locate a DNA participant. I think DNA results on this group could be very interesting. There are lots of possibilities for 'matching'.
The Iredell Co, NC ALEXANDERs DNA participants do not match the Seven Brothers/Two Sisters. They do match a man who has a paper trail to one of the Seven Brothers, but his DNA does NOT match the Seven Brothers either. They all match a man whose earliest ancestor came to America from Ireland ca 1770 and a 'potential' match with a man whose earliest ancestor was 'a' Andrew Alexander who lived in Eastown, Chester Co, PA by 1790. It's a real puzzle -- to say the least.
If anyone knows of any male descendants of any of the above people, it would be wonderful to have them participate in the DNA project. As I look at this puzzle, it's impossible to predict who anyone would match, but we now have 135+ participants with large 'clusters' of matching people and lots of people who don't match anyone -- YET. :>)
