I suspect the Alexander family you are referring to is part of the larger family that moved to Clearfield County, PA. They started out in or around Cecil Co., MD and came through Chester Co., PA, stayed a while in Centre Co., finally settling in Clearfield Co. from whence they scattered. It took them a few years to make the trek and along the way members put down roots and stayed behind. If you search: Amos, William, John, James you might find something useful. I wish I had my documents available - I could give you a good chunk of the line. Incidentially, I just discovered that Alexandria, VA may be named for John Alexander of this family.
I will be glad to share additional information when available.
