Debra, thank you for your response. Yes, there is deep suspicion about the connection and my gr-gr grandfather mentioned it as well. This we do know: John Alexander, who came to America with his family, which included his wife Margaret Glasson Alexander, his sons Hugh, James and John, his daughters Rachel and Margaret, and two nephews, who - along with his niece who married a Polk - went to North Carolina. When they first landed in America in 1736, they stayed for a short time in Sligo & Munster, which is on the Mason-Dixon, or PA/MD line. It is assumed they were related to other Alexander's who had settled there some time earlier. My family went from Chester County up to Mifflin County and settled in that area; James was given land for his service in the QM for General Washington in Clearfield County. Yes, many branches did also go to Centre County as well as Franklin County and so forth. Complicating the matter is that quite a few Alexander families went to Franklin, Mifflin, Centre and Clearfield County who appeared to have no relation to mine. But do they? They very well may have been of the same family of Lanark/Glasgow/Stirling in Scotland and Counties Donegal and Armagh in Ireland. Only DNA testing can assure us of the connections and that, from 12 or 13 generations or so, isn't 100%, of course.
