Dear David Alexander:
If you are wondering whether 'your' ALEXANDERs were related to the John Alexander/Margaret Glasson ALEXANDERs or whether they might have been related to the ALEXANDERs who settled in Somerset/Cecil, Maryland (with large branches migrating to Mecklenburg Co, NC), I would greatly encourage you to consider Y-DNA testing. We have descendants of the John Alexander/Margaret Glasson ALEXANDERs and we have descendants of the Somerset/Cecil ALEXANDERs as DNA partipants. [On the DNA project, we call the Alexander/Glasson group the Glasgow ALEXANDERs (22 current participants) and we call the Somerset/Cecil group the 7+2 ALEXANDERs for the 'traditional' Seven Brothers/Two Sisters (40 current participants). DNA results show that these two groups are NOT closely related, despite close proximity.

You could easily find out whether your DNA matched either group, or any of the other 50+ separate and distinct ALEXANDER lineages. [We have 'about' 180 participants on the DNA project.]

See Roger Alexander's July 6th GenForum posting below your message for information about the excellent 'sale' price for a 37 marker Y-DNA test. [Subject line of Roger's posting is:
"Save an Alexander some money, and help the rest of us using DNA" [or you can go directly to his message by using this url:

Roger would be more than happy to answer ANY questions you might have about the project. He is a 'volunteer' coordinator for the ALEXANDER project, so has no financial interest in anyone's test. As a male ALEXANDER, you are a perfect candidate to do a Y-DNA test and it sounds as though some long standing questions could be answered.
