Linda - I am also a descendent of William Harvey Alexander through his first marriage to Nancy Laughlin. I have quite a bit of information about his family - two children with wife Nancy Laughlin and seven children with wife Lucinda Cavin. I have your ancestor John Huston Alexander as b. 12-12-1846 and m. Sarah Ellen Gilbert. I have a brother Thomas Charlton Alexander b. 8-15-1844 Thomas also migrated to Washington as did another brother and a half sister migrated to California. Would like to share information.
