Hi Brenda!
Do you have Ancestry.com? If so, click on "collaborate", then "message boards" and find the Alexander board. When there, type in "Ellis Alexander", unclick "all boards" and click on the "Alexander" board. This woman's messages will appear amongst the 39 or so messages.
However, in checking around in the census, I find that your Edith (if she was born around 1904) is really the daughter of Florence Alexander McHenry, daughter of James Patterson and Martha Foy. Ellis W. did not marry until about 1916. In the 1920 census, you can find Florence, living with her brother Clyde, and Edith. In 1930, Edith and Marshall are living with Florence (McHenry-listed as McHenay in the census). In ELlis W.'s 1942 obit, it said: "His neice, Mrs. Edith Brown, entered his room during the afternoon, and found him dead".
Did Marshall Brown live in Kennett Square, PA? If so, you can find him under the Social Security search and can order a copy of his SS application. It will probably list his parents.
If you need any help, or don't have Ancestry, you can e-mail me at lptambo@msn.com
Happy Hunting!
Pat
