Pat:
I am not certain, but it seems 'probable' that the Caleb P. Alexander you are researching is the same Caleb P. Alexander who was the son of Nathaniel Alexander(b.15 Dec 1767 Mecklenburg Co, NC - d. 16 Nov 1823 Cabarrus Co, NC). "This" Nathaniel Alexander married Esther Phifer on 10 Apr 1793 in Cabarrus Co, NC. Esther was a daughter of Caleb Phifer.

Here is an abstract of a Bedford Co, TN deed which outlines the distribution of some of Caleb Phifer's property, including distribution to his daughter, Esther (Phifer) Alexander. Esther was dec'd by the time of this distribution, so her children are listed, including a son, Caleb P. Alexander:
“Land Deed Genealogy of Bedford County, Tennessee 1807-1852” compiled by Helen C. Marsh and Timothy R. Marsh, 1988, Southern Historical Press

Deed Book ‘AA’, page 22: Petition for the heirs of Caleb Phifer for a division of land.  Petition of william Houston and his wife Sarah, Elizabeth Moore, Robert McKenzie and Mary his wife, John N. Phifer and Ann his wife, A. C. McRee, in right of his deceased wife Barbara, Cornelius McRee, Caleb P. McRee by right of Mary Ann McRee and Margaret McRee who was an infant under age of twenty one years by their father and next friend A. C. McRee, Robert W. Smith and Margaret his wife, Caleb P. Alexander, Samuel S. Harris and Jane his wife, Eliza Mears, Francis Lock and his wife Sarah, Elam Harris and Mary his wife, Nancy Alexander an infant under the age of twenty one by her guardian and next friend Samuel S. Harris, Esther Alexander who is under twenty one years by her guardian and next friend Elam Harris, Charles and John Anderson who are also under twenty one years by their guardian and next friend Caleb P. Alexander, all of North Carolina, represented by Caleb Phifer of Cabarrus Co, NC, departed this life sometime in the year 1811.  He died seized of a tract of land in Bedford Co, TN, containing about 5000 acres.  Caleb Phifer made and published his Last Will and Testament and proven in County Court of Cabarrus Co, NC.  He divided among six daughters, to wit:  Esther Alexander**, Elizabeth Moore, Sarah Houston, Barbara McRee, Mary and Ann Phifer.  Esther Alexander departed this life since the death of her father and leaving your petitioners , Margaret who has intermarried with Robert W. Smith, Jane who intermarried with Samuel S. Harris, Sarah who intermarried with Francis Lock, Sarah who has intermarried with Francis Lock, Mary who has intermarried with Elam Harris, Eliza Mears relict of J. A. Mears, deceased, Caleb P. Alexander, Nancy Alexander, Easter Alexander, Charles and John Alexander, her heirs at law surviving her.  Barbara, one of the daughters has departed this life since the death of her father leaving A. C. McRee who claims to be a tenant by the courtesy and your petitions, Cornelius McRee, C. P. McRee, Mary Ann and Margaret McRee her heirs at law surviving her.  Sarah who intermarried with William Houston, also a daughter, and Elizabeth Moore also one of the daughters and Mary who intermarried with Robert McKenzie also one of the daughters.  Ann who intermarried with John N. Pfifer is also a daughter.  Sometime in the year 1817 a Power of Attorney signed by the devises, their husbands was delivered unto Joseph Steele, J. N. Alexander and Wilson Steels empowering them to divide land equally, to wit, Elam W. Harris, Mary Harris, Caleb P. Alexander, Eliza Mears, Sarah Lock, Francis Lock.  Reg:  11 Feb 1829.

I am not a descendant of 'this' ALEXANDER family, but am descended from a different branch of the same ALEXANDER family that I believe Nathaniel Alexander (1767-1823) belonged to. This is the very large group of ALEXANDERs (Seven brothers/Two sisters) who settled in Somerset Co, MD (in the late 1680s) with large branches moving to Cecil Co, MD by 1709/14. Many descendants of this original group migrated to the Mecklenburg Co, NC area starting in the mid 1750s.

I have not personally researched Caleb P. Alexander, but I have unsourced notes that he married Lunda Chisholm and they had sons named Charles and John. I don't know anything further about Caleb, but it sure does look like the same family. I'd be happy to share the info I have on Nathaniel Alexander and as far back to the original Seven Brothers/Two Sisters.

If you are aware of a male directly descended from Caleb, I would encourage you to consider Y-DNA testing. There are something like 42 men who are descendants of the Seven Brothers who have participated in DNA testing. Roger Alexander <rogalex@live.com> or I would be happy to answer questions about the ALEXANDER Y-DNA project.

In any case, I'd be happy to send you info on Caleb's ALEXANDER ancestors -- to the extent that I know them.
