My 4th grtgrandparents were John Lawson & Christian [Christane] Lyall/Lyell of Newburgh, Fife, Scotland.
This post is a continuation of my ancetors posted to the Lawson Fam Gen Forum.

(2) Patrick Lyall md 2 July 1661 to Catherine Philp [nothing further]
(3) Ellen [Helen] Lyall md 12 July 1661 to David Salmond [nothing further]
(4) Patrick Lyall md 10 Jan 1662 to Margaret Philp & they had a dau Jean chr 26 Oct 1662 Nb. [nothing further]
(5) Helen Lyall chr 20 Apr 1662 to John Lyall & Christian Gardner [poss parents of John Lyall (Er?)[Elder] #516-above]
[No marriage rec found for John Lyall & Christian Gardner, who were poss md in Nb. bef. 1654. This couple had eight more children christened in Nb:
Mathew 8 Nov 1663; Ellen [Helen] 8 Oct 1665; Alex'r 12 Jan 1668; Anne 4 Apr 1670; David 7 Apr 1672; Andrew 15 Jul 1674; Christian 23 Nov 1678 & Christian 21 Oct 1680] [This last entry is from IGI &, according to my earlier notes, no records of chr's or marriages were found for Lyall 1678-1685].
(6) James Lyall md 25 Jul 1663 to Margaret Wilson & they had a son Rob't chr 23 Apr 1665 Nb & a dau Marg't chr 9 Jun 1667 Nb [nothing furhter]
(7) Helen Lyall md 9 May 1674 to Andrew Wilkie [John Lyall (her father or brother?), cautioner] [nothing further]
[Only entries of Lyall's between 6 & 7 (1663-1674 or 11 yrs) are chr's of ch of John Lyall & Christian Gardner, above. Also no entries were found of Lyall's between 7 & 8 (1674-1685 another 11 yrs) except for their dau(s) Christian in 1678 (and 1680)]
(8) Helen Lyall md 22 Dec 1685 to John Blyth & they had at least 3 ch chr in Nb: Christian 25 Sep/Oct 1686; John 18 Oct 1686/8 & Mary 7 Jan 1705.
[Entries incomplete 1678-1685 of Lyall's, and missing for all of Nb 1690-1702, hence the gap between John Blyth 1686/8 & Mary Blyth 1705]
(9) Andrew Lyall chr 29 Dec 1686 to John Lyall & Isabel Wilkie, who were poss md in Nb. 1678-85. Also had a son Mathew chr in Nb 9 Apr 1688.
[This couple poss had several more ch between 1690 & 1702]
(10) Margaret Lyall chr 14 Oct 1688 to Mathew Lyell & Margaret Cochran, who were poss md 1678-85. Also had a son Joseph chr in Nb 7 Feb 1703 & a dau Isabel chr in Nb 25 June 1706.
[Surely this couple had several more ch between 1690 & 1702. Also, David Lyall prob md Marg't Scott in Nb in the late 1690's]
(11) Christian Lyall chr 20 Dec 1702 to David Lyall & Margaret Scott. Also had chr in Nb: Elizabeth (Elspeth) 15 Feb 1705; Mathew 19 Jan 1707; Marg't 4 Nov 1708; David 22 Oct 1710; George 1 June 1712; Helen 16 Jan 1715 & Robert 21 June 1717.
(12) John Lyall (Yr?) md 30 Dec 1707 to Bessie ALLAN. This couple had chr in Nb: Isabel 18 Oct 1708; Bessie 10 Dec 1710; John 6 July 1712; David 13 Aug 1714; Marg't 30 Sep 1716; Alex'r 8 Dec 1717; Andrew 24 Feb 1719; CHRISTIAN [129. CHRISTANE above?] 5 June 1720; Robert 5 Apr 1721 & Ann 17 Sep 1725.
(13) Alex'r Lyall md 9 Nov 1712 to Isabel BUIST. This couple had chr in Nb: Alex'r 10 Aug 1713; Isabel 2 May 1715; John 5 Jan 1718; CHRISTIAN [129. CHRISTANE above?] 27 Dec 1719; Catherine 2 July 1721; David 24 Mar 1723; JEAN 24 Jan 1725 & George 26 Sep 1726.
(14) John Lyall, Yr [younger] cautioner for marr. 18 June 1715.
(15) John Lyall md 16 Dec 1715 to Cecil Small [John Lyall, Yr cautioner]. This couple had chr in Nb: John 21 Oct 1716; Mathew 15 Feb 1719; Cecil 14 Jan 1722; David 24 May 1724; Euphane 20 Mar 1726; Margaret 16 Feb 1728; Kathryn 22 Mar 1730; Helen 12 Mar 1732; Joseph 29 Aug 1734 & Isabel 15 May 1743.
(16) Isabel Lyall chr 29 Nov 1719 to David Lyall & Helen Blyth. Also had chr in Nb: David 11 Oct 1724.
(17) David Lyall md 31 Dec 1724 to Janet Taylor [David Lyall, Er cautioner]. This couple had chr in Nb: David & Janet 21 Mar 1729 & Isabel 15 Mar 1738.
(18) Elizabeth Lyall md 21 Dec 1727 to George Blyth. This couple had chr in Nb: Elspeth [Elizabeth] 23 Mar 1729; George 10 May 1730; David 4 Mar 1733; John 3 Aug 1735; Jean 19 Mar 1738; Marg't 31 Oct 1742 & George 3 Aug 1746 [ch presented by John Blyth, brother of dec'd George Blyth].
(19) Bailie [John?] Lyall, Yr cautioner for marr. in 1730.
(20) Joseph Lyall md 29 Nov 1730 to Mary Mether [ cautioners were his brother, David Lyall, Weaver in Nb & Alex'r Glass of Carpow [Mansion/Estate in Abernethy, Perthshire, Scotland]. This couple had chr in Nb: Joseph [to Bailie Joseph Lyall] 26 Sep 1731; Marg't 12 Aug 1733; Janet 30 Nov 1735 & Mathew 26 Aug 1739.
(21) Bessie Lyall md 5 Nov 1731 to Michael White [cautioner was John Lyall [Yr], son of Bailie John Lyall]. This couple had chr in Nb: Bessie 10 Sep 1732; John 23 Jun 1734; Giles 29 Aug 1736; Marg't 4 Mar 1739; James 5 Apr 1741; Elizabeth 16 Oct 1743; Christane 10 May 1747; Michael 13 May 1750 & Mary 13 Sep 1752.
(22) Isabel Lyall md 5 Dec 1734 to Mathew Cochran. This couple had chr in Nb: Christian 21 Sep 1735; Isabel 6 Mar 1737; Katherine 10 Dec 1738; Janet 20 Nov 1743 & Jean 15 Dec 1751.
(23) John Lyall, Yr, Weaver in Nb cautioer for a marr. 16 May 1735.
(24) Margaret Lyall md 12 Nov 1735 to John Moncrieff, Schoolmaster of Dunbog Par. [cautioner was John Lyall, her brother]. [nothing further].
(25) John Lyall md 15 Oct 1736 to Elizabeth Niven. [nothing further].
(26) David Lyall md 23 Dec 1737 Nb to Mary Hardie [of Auchtermuchty, where they were also md 25 Nov 1737]. Thsi couple had chr in Nb: John 23 Mar 1740; Marg't 19 Dec 1742; Christane 7 Sep 1746 & Alex'r 6 Oct 1751.
(27) Alexander Lyell md 7 July 1739 to Isabel ALLAN [cautioner was John Lyell, Yr, son of Doctor John Lyell]. This couple had chr in Nb: Isabel 13 Aug 1740; Alex'r 5 Dec 1742; David 17 Jun 1744; John 15 June 1746; Alex'r 18 Sep 1748; Jean 7 Jan 1750; George 5 Jan 1752; Catherine 9 Jan 1754; Marg't 2 May 1756; Christane 19 Mar 1758; Ann 16 Dec 1759 & Elizabeth 12 Feb 1761.
(28) Alexander Lyell md 3 Dec 1742 to Mary Gilbert. This couple had chr in Nb: Bessie 9 Oct 1743; John 16 Feb 1746; Mary 15 Nov 1747; Ann 31 July 1750; Laurance 22 Apr 1753 & Niven 23 Dec 1755.
(29) John Lyell, [Yr], son of Bailie John Lyell of Nb was cautioner for a marr. 9 Dec 1743.
(30) CHRISTANE Lyell md 14 Dec 1744 to John LASON [Lawson] [cautioners were Bailie Alex'r Lyall & John Lyell, her brother]. This couple had chr in Nb: John 13 Oct 1745; George 2 Aug 1747; Elizabeth [Betty] 20 Aug 1749; John 23 Jun 1751; Michael 29 Apr 1753; David 14 Sep 1755; James 4 Dec 1757; Andrew 21 Dec 1760; Peter 18 Sep 1763 & Christane 22 Sep 1765.
(31) Alex'r Lyell, son of Bailie John Lyell of Nb was cautioer fro a marr. 30 Aug 1745.
(32) Margaret Lyell md 12 Dec 1746 to James Fairfoul [cautioer was John Lyell, her brother]. This couple had chr in Nb: Isabel 20 Sep 1747; Elizabeth 10 Aug 1755 & Katherine 24 Dec 1758.
(33) Alex'r Lyell eldest son of Bailie Alex'r Lyell of Nb was cautioner for a marr. 14 Nov 1747.
(34) Katherine Lyell md 19 Aug 1748 to James Adamson [cautioner was John Adamson, his brother]. This couple had chr in Nb: Isabel 26 Jan 1752 & Janet 9 Sep 1753.
(35) George Lyell md 22 Dec 1749 to Marg't Wmson [of Abernethy]. This couple had chr in Nb: George 5 Feb 1751.
(36) Euphane Lyell md 20 June 1751 to David Hay. This couple had chr in Nb: John 1 Apr 1754.
(37) JEAN Lyell md 13 Feb 1752 to John Pitcathly [cautioners were Joseph Lyell, only (living) son of the late Bailie Joseph Lyell of Nb; and Alex'r Lyell, her brother]. [This couple were reportedly the parents of Ann Pitkethly who md Andrew Pitkethly 1781 Nb; but they were most likely the parents of George Pitkethly who md Janet Bisset; John Pitkethly who md Marg't Blyth & Thomas Pitkethly who md Isabel Nairn. All four of these last four couples had ch chr in Newburgh Associate Congregation Church Records].
This concludes my notes of Lyall/Lyell family of Nb for the first 100 years; Isabel Lyall marr to John ALLAN in June 1660 to chr of Elizabeth Lyell to Alex'r Lyell & Isabel ALLAN in Feb1761. Now I'll conclude with a few notes of the families of ALLAN and BUIST:
(1) Katherine Allan md bef. 1654 to John Crieghton & they had a dau Katherine chr 1 Oct 1654.
(2) Andrew Allan chr 6 Apr 1656 to James Allan & Isabel BUIST [of Lumbennie Easter].
(3) Christian Allan chr 16 Apr 1656 to Robert Allan & Agnes Miller [presented by John Wmson].
(4) Katherine Allan md bef, 1658 to James Livingston.
(5) John Allan md 5 June 1660 to Isabel LYALL. This couple had chr in Nb: Katherine 27 Jan 1661; John 7 Jun 1663; Christian 2 Apr 1665; Isabel 17 Nov 1667; David 21 aug 1670; John 16 Feb 1674; Helen 11 Mar 1677 & Grisell [Grace] 14 Aug 1684/5. [Another gap in records 1678-1685].
(6) Christian Allan md bef. 1663 to James Pitcairns.
(7) Robert Allan md 29 July 1664 to Ellen Smart. This couple had chr in Nb: Bessie 20 May 1666.
(8) Bessie Allan [prob md to John LYALL above-below] chr 16 Aug 1685 to John Allan & Bessie Bell. [IGI has a dau Sarah 23 June 1697 Nb, but prob should be 1687 as records missing 1690-1702]
(9) James Allan md 23 July 1689 to Grizell Wmson.
(10) Bessie Allan md 30 Dec 1707 to John LYALL.
(11) John Allan md 2 Apr 1717 to Isabel Wmson.
(12) James Allan md 15 Feb 1718 to Elizabeth Wmson.
(13) I would have listed these next two chr's to above two sets of parents right after their respective marriages, but then lots of people reading this post might be as confused as I originally was, and they would surely think that I still am. This is too huge of a coincidence to be a mistake, unless it was done during the extraction program for the IGI. An Isabel Allan is listed in IGI as chr 8 Feb 1719 to John Allan & Isabel Williamson, and another Isabel is listed in same IGI as chr 8 Feb 1719 to James Allan & Elizabeth Williamson. [Ha, two brothers John & James must have md two sisters Isabel & Elizabeth, respectively, and each couple had a dau, about the same time, and they decided to name both of them Isabel & have them christened on the same day. What could be confusing about that?]
(14) One of these Isabel Allan's was surely the Isabel allan who md Alex'r LYELL in Nb on 7 July 1739 [see above for this couple & the 12 ch listed as chr to them]. This concludes ALLAN listings, now on to listings for BUIST:
(1) Agnes Buist md bef. 1654 to Henry Arnot & they had a son chr 17 Sep 1654.
(2) Wm Buist md 14 Dec 1655 to Katharine Laing & they had a son Walter chr 29 Sep 1656.
(3) Isabel Buist [of Lumbennie Easter] md bef. 1656 to James LYALL & they had a son Andrew chr 6 Apr 1656.
(4) Isabel Buist chr 15 Jan 1677 to Wm Buist & Isabel Jackson.
(5) Isabel Buist chr 11 July 1685 to Wm Buist & Jean Buist.
(6) Isabel Buist md 9 Nov 1712 to Alex'r LYALL.
Parochial Records of Newburgh Parish begin in 1654, and Buist appears in Sep 1654, followed by Allan in Oct 1654, and found no listing of Lyall until Isabel;s marriage to John Allan in 1660. In this post, indeed the first are listed last & the last first. I welcome any & all follow-up comments, suggestions, corrections & especially any additions.
