Matthew Sample Taylor (1781-1851/52) was living in Greenfield Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania with his father's family by 1798. This family lived very close to the New York state line. There is evidence of close relations between church communities in Greenfield Township and neighboring Westfield Township in Chautauqua County, New York.
Probably in 1803 Matthew married Sarah Allen, daughter of one John Allen. We think it likely that this is John Allen who purchased land in Westfield Township, Chautauqua County from the Holland Land Company in 1801.
Any information regarding John Allen of Westfield would be of great interest to us.
