Bette, I can't help with the parents of James, but there are some tantalizing possibilities that I must explore. My ggrandfather was Jonathan Allen. The first confirmed info about him is that he was married in Perry County, KY in 1847. The 1860 census says he was born in IN in 1817. Another web site says his father was James with no other info. Do you have any indication that your James had a son named Jonathan? I have pretty good info from Jonathan forward but nothing about his parents or siblings. My DNA test indicates I am descended from Ananias Allen who was in NJ about 1700, but I cannot establish the connection. I would be happy to share what I have if there appears to be any connection here.
