Still looking for a connection. Do you know my great-grandmother, Mattie 'Belle' Peters? My gramma, Elsie Mae Lyon Ward, said her mother's (Mattie Belle) parents died in a train accident. I'm assuming in Arkansas. Mattie Belle and a brother were raised by an aunt and uncle. I don't have names for her parents, brother or aunt and uncle. I have on Mattie Belle’s death certificate from Aberdeen, Washington and Arkansas census records, Mattie 'Belle' was born March 17, 1874 in Michigan. I wrote to Michigan State and in a ten year search, there was no birth record. What I do have: 1880 Cache Township, Clay County Census shows a Belle Peters as a cousin to the head of household, William, Frances and daughter Sarah. I have a 'feeling' this is my great-gramma. How do I prove this? Marriage, Oct 17, 1892 in Sedgwick, Lawrence County to my great-grandfather, William E. Lyon. E. J. Lewis signed for Mattie Belle. Do you know E. J. Lewis? 1900 Ashland Township, Lawrence County Census shows William and Belle Lyon, with their children Jennie 'Ethel', Richard, William E and a brother to head of household, John Lyon. 1910 Fogleman Township, Critten County shows William and Mattie 'Belle', and their children Jenny 'Ethel', Richard J., Nellie Sylvestor and brother to head of household, Benjamin D (John) Lyon. My gramma confirmed their brother William died at a young age. I think this child is buried in Lawrence or Crittendon County. 1911, my gramma, Elsie Mae Lyon was born in Tyronza, Poinsett County, Arkansas. About 1912 her father, William died. I'm searching for his burial place, too. My gramma only remembers growing up in Peach Orchard, Clay County. The 1920 Clark Township, Clay County Census shows Mattie B Lyon with children Nellie, Elsie, Richard and his wife Sarah. In Nov 1922, Mattie 'Belle' Lyon married John Gunter and the family moved to Washington State. My gramma remembers the train ride. It was fun! My gramma also remembers in Peach Orchard, past students of her mother's would come by and say hello. Apparently some time before she married William Lyon, she was a teacher. After he died and everyone was living in Peach Orchard she did house-cleaning. I have tried searching court records in Lawrence and Clay County for maybe a possible 'adoption' by her aunt and uncle or anything. Nothing stands out and it's pretty hard without any names. Do we have a connection? Any suggestions on what to try next? My family genealogy web page http://www.phyllis.ws/tree.htm Phyllis Haynen Notify Administrator about this message?
