Thank you, JoAnn, for your response. I do recognize the Antoine Janis and Pierre Lemieux names. They may have been the absolute first settlers to this NE Arkansas area. Have you already searched the Lawrence County EARLY records that survived and have been abstracted by James Logan Morgan and Marion Stark Craig?
The William Russell you refer to is not the Wm. Russell who was the Justice of the Peace of Columbia Township in Lawrence County, and who was close to our William Robinson. In fact, the Janis group settled a little farther west, I believe. The Columbia Wm. Russell was not too educated based on his writing and spelling.
I have searched and searched for more information on Lewis DeMun/DeMunn/De Mun(n). He and our William Robinson were close it appears. In the 1816 lawsuit, Bazil Boran states that Robinson would do anything for DeMun(n). One of our Robinson daughters name was Julia Lewis Robinson (January 23, 1818). . .we wonder if that was in honor of Lewis DeMun(n) friendship. Anything outside of Lawrence County you might find about him is of interest to me.
Any journals and/or family histories that discuss the area are of interest to me. I really do not think our Robinson was a hunter/trapper, but have no idea what he might have done to earn money to live in that area for 11 years. He was a surveyor after they arrived in Texas in late 1829.
