Doris, that line of COOPERs in Lawrence Co AR that Mike helped find for you may well be from William COOPER b SC, a brother to my gg grandfather Benson G. COOPER, and another brother Caleb that were 'down the road' in St Francis / Monroe Co AR.

Not only did I have COOPERs in Lawrence Co AR, but I also had McLAINs / McCLAINs and the lines are connected for sure through 1898 marriage of Clara COOPER b 1878 Monroe Co AR to William David McLAIN b 1859 Lawrence Co AR (Walnut Ridge).

The COOPERs were 1700s / 1800s in NC and my line from David COOPER and wife Elizabeth WILDER ? went in the end to Spartanburg, THickety, SC ...along the NC border. On that line of descendancy, a Dillard COOPER went to Alabama / TN and then to Texas to fight in the Texas war with Mexico. Others went to KY / TN and perhaps to Texas, while my gg grandfather Benson G. COOPER and at least (maybe more) brothers went to AR. The COOPER line of NC / SC was enormous, much still being learned.

Even the surname DICKERSON is a possibility. Benson G. COOPER had a daughter Cordelia who mar an unknown DICKERSON 1st spouse (they had children) who died and she remarried a FRUEN / FRUIN.

Re the McLAIN / McCLAINs, I am working with several cousins, most found due to DNA testing. We have been sharing our individual knowledge on our branches, but are still trying to connect the dots to link us on paper. My line out of VA / NC / KY (near and in part of NC prior to 1790s before TN was a state) were early in TN, then by 1817 buying land in IL, then back to TN by 1820s, settling in Weakley Co TN. Nearby TN counties were once one large 'county' or territory. My branch left before 1850 and went to AR, as did another branch ...and some went to MO and so on.

Hope to hear from you so that we can begin discussing our lines.
