I found my England Archard's transcribes in the 1891, 1881, 1871, 1851 as Archard, but in 1841 the name was transcribed as Archer. I don't know what the original spelling or it's origin, but I do know that in various census, marriage, and baptism records that I have seen and/or obtained copies of the capital A and O often is hard to determine and I have Archer and Archard records for the same person.It depends on who is transcribing the record.
