I am still looking for information about Thomas Archer born April 28, 1795 in Danube, NY, and his parents Mathias (spelling varies) Archer and Elizabeth Morphey. Family legend says that he was a Mohawk Indian (one group lived in Danube at that time), but I have information that makes me doubt that. I believe he is the same Thomas Archer listed in the Geisenberg Church Records as follows: From Geisenberg Church Records, Children of Mattheus and Elisabeth (Archer): Thomas ger. d 28ten Aprill 1795 getauft 9ten May 1795, p.11 (127) Parents: Mattheus Archer und frau Elisabeth Testes: Godlieb Schneyder und frau Rahel Petrus gebr. d 4t Juny 1797 getauft d 2t July 1797, p. 23 (312) Parents: Mattheus Archer und frau Elisabeth Testes: Petrus Resner und Catharina Coopman Jacob gebr. d 20t October 1799 get. D 1t December 1799, p. 50 (682) Parents: Mattheus Archer und frau Elisabeth Testes: Christoph Monk und frau Christina Martinus geb. d 1t January 1802 get. d 17t Jan. 1802, p. 70 (980) Parents: Mattheus Archer und frau Elisabeth Testes: Jacob Koehner und frau Elisabeth Maria geb. d 23tn Febr. 1805 get. d 2tn Maerz 1806, p. 100 (1388) Parents: Mattheus Archer und frau Elisabeth Testes: Adam Kessler un frau Maria Catharina geb. d 31tn Jan. 1806 get. d 14tn Feb 1808, p. 109 (1508) Parents: Mattheus Archer und frau Elisabeth Testes: Abraham F. Conterman und frau Catharina Maria d. 10tn Feb. 1808 get. d 14tn Feb. 1808, p. 125 (1733) Parents: Mattheus Archer und frau Elisabeth John geb. d 23tn Aug. 1809 get. d 3tn Sept. 1809, p. 137 (1891) Parents: Mattheus Archer und frau Elisabeth Testes: John G. Snyder and Margaretha Murphy ( Snyder, John G. NY HERKIMER CO. STARK 323 1850 ) I know the German church often baptised Indians into their church, so the German language here makes some sense. I also know there were Archers who came here from Ireland and with Elizabeth Morphey as the wife of Mathias, that makes sense. There were a few Mathias Archer's in the NYC area. Thomas Archer lived in Stark, NY for quite a while with his wife Jemima Stevens or Kinsman. Thomas was a veteran of the War of 1812. Notify Administrator about this message?
