Prof James J Auchmuty had a lifetime interest in his name. He was an historian, died 1981, I have his writings. He suggests two possibilities for the origins of Mary and Isabel Auchmuty, the first being that they were daus of Arthur Gates Auchmuty and the second that they were descendants of Rev James Auchmuty, Dean of Armagh. Both ideas are tenuous. More if you like.
