James Henry Avery

I have a typed copy of news article: Times-Courier dated April 25, 1912 RECOVERED BODIES MONTHS IN WATER drowned Dec 23rd, Three bodies found Tuesday 75 Miles down the River--Sheppard Rawls, a negro from near Rico Bluff on Chattahoochee River was in the city today and reported the finding last Thursday of the bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Jas Avery, of Faircloth, Ga and a negro boy who drowned at Neal's landing on the 23rd of last December by the overturning of the ferry boat. Despite the fact that the bodies had been beneath the the surface for approximately four months, our informant says they were very little decomposed and no trouble was experienced in identifying them. Another pecular feature was that the time of the accident Mr. Avery had $35.00 in bills pinned in his inside vest pocket and when found this money was still intact fastened to the garment although water soaked. The point where they were found is about 75 miles down the river from Neal's Landing and when discovered the three bodies were floating in an eddy. the only plausible explaination is that on account of Chattahoochee River being very high when they drowned, the bodies were carried under a drift and there remained until the recent heavy rains swelled the stream suficiently to release them, and they then floated into the place where they were found.

James Henry Avery was married to Willie Mae Hewitt on January 1st 1911..she was one of the others who drown, I do not know the identity of the 3rd person, most likely the ferry attendant.
James Henry Avery {b: August 1887} was the son of Daniel Thomas Avery and Patsy Lodge Avery from Decatur Co. Ga.

I do have more information on this family if you think this is someone in your Avery Avera family. This person also decended from the Sherod Cutts line from his daughter Jane Cutts who married Thomas Avery.
