I have always spelled my last name "Baack", but after talking to relatives, I have discovered that my grandfather changed the spelling. He stowed away on a ship that was heading for USA (late 1800s/early 1900s). He changed the spelling so he could hide out in the USA. This is hearsay but could be true. His name was George Peter Baack [AKA George Alexander Baack]. He was born in Lehe, Germany. His parents names were (as I know them) Henry Baack [d. Oderquart, Germany] and Mary Fastert [d. Krumendeich, Germany]. They were rumored to have been killed in the bombing of Germany in WWI. George had a sister nicknamed Betty [real name Elizabeth(?)] and a brother named Hugo who died in California, USA. If anyone can help me with any info on my family, please respond to this message. Thank you, Nikki Baack-Brooks, USA.
