In answer to David Babington in writing to Alice. He said that the Babingtons came to Ireland in the late 17th century. They came before that. In Londonderry cathedral there is evidence of Bishop Brutus Babington in 1611.Born in Nantwich, via Cambridge and Lichfield he arrived in Derry. My own interest is further down this line with the Revd. William Babington, born 1713, at Trinity College Dublin in the 1730s, he became a curate at Mevagh in Donegal and after other church positions died on March 25, 1777. He had a daughter called Margaret who married a Donegal landowner named William Patton of Croaghan House, Tamney in Fanad, Donegal. They had a daughter called Rebekah in 1797 and from her line was born my grandmother in the Fanad area of Donegal in the 1880s.
Does any one know of these Babingtons in Ireland? I think Margaret may well have lived at a house called Greenfort. I should be glad to hear from any one who recognizes any of these names or of any other Babingtons in Ireland.
