PHILIP HENRY BACKMAN was born about 1864 in Delhi, Delaware County, New York. Philip married Mary Jane Gates in 1890 in Middletown, New York. They were in Poughkeepsie (Dutchess Co.) in 1896 where my grandmother was born. They apparently moved to Middletown, New York after that where they remained until the early 1900`s.
My cousin told me that Philip`s family was involved in the hotel business. There was the HOLDING HOUSE HOTEL where some of the Backmans worked.
