He was the son of Margaret Patterson Snapp and John W. Snapp, Jr. He was named for his uncle, James Daniel Patterson, who predeceased him. Danny graduated from Church Hill High School, Church Hill, TN, in 1966, received a bachelor’s degree from Lincoln Memorial University in 1970 and a master’s degree from Lynchburg College in 1979. He continued graduate study through UVA Extension and served on the clinical faculty of Lynchburg College for two years. He was employed by Bedford County and Lynchburg Public Schools for 35 years where he served as classroom teacher, special education teacher, assistant principal, and visiting teacher/school social worker. He was associated with Lynchburg Florist & Antiques for 33 years and won numerous design awards at state and regional meetings. Danny’s other interests included landscaping, reading, painting, collecting antiques, and his home, which was built in 1884. He was a member of the Diamond Hill Historical Society and had served on the Keep Lynchburg Beautiful Commission and the Board of Directors of Lynchburg Forte. He was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed visiting his home church, McFerrin United Methodist, on return trips home. He was very fond of his Dachshunds, Savannah and General Beauregard. He loved to travel and had visited most of the countries in Europe, his favorite places being Venice, Italy, and St. Petersburg, Russia. He was also predeceased by his grandparents, Guy Daniel and Mary Maybell Love Patterson and John W. Snapp, Sr. and Sally Lou Bailey Snapp. Danny is survived by his parents, Margaret and John Snapp of Church Hill, TN; friend, J. Ray Pulliam of Lynchburg, VA; one brother, Samuel Thomas and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Jonesborough, TN; one niece, Sherri Snapp Edmondson and her husband, Gene, of Greensboro, NC, and their three children, Hunter, Dustin, and Clay; two nephews, Tony Snapp and his wife, Tracy, and daughter Brooklyn of Jonesborough, TN, and Robert Moore and his wife, Barbara, of New York City, NY; and a very special friend, Betty Jo Smith Kern of Blountville, TN; amd several aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of the Hills, Dr. Pat Pletke, Alice Powell, Renae Davis, and Katie Nowlin. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, VA, and at other times at his residence, 507 Thirteenth Street, Lynchburg. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Court Street United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at McPheeters Bend Community Cemetery, Church Hill, Hawkins Co TN. Danny had a great love for flowers and a floral memorial will be greatly appreciated.
