Mrs. Rowe was a native of Washington Co TN, and daughter of the late Robert G. and Mary Jane Bailey Edwards. Mrs. Rowe was currently a member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, where she taught Sunday School at an early age. She was a graduate of Jonesboro High School. Serving with her late husband, Earnie James Rowe, she organized and directed many youth activities, Vacation Bible Schools, drama programs and church choirs. In addition to her late husband, Mrs. Rowe was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Ernestine Rowe; a daughter-in- law, Carol Simmers Rowe; seven brothers, Lawrence Edwards, Carl Edwards, Robert Edwards, Herman Edwards, Jessie Edwards, and two infant brothers; and three sisters, Geneva Onks, Maude Bowman, and Lorena Edwards. Survivors include two sons, E. J. Rowe, Jonesborough, TN, and Robert 'Bob' and wife Joy, of Milford, DEL; one daughter, Berdene Freeman and husband Wendell, Johnson City, TN; two grandsons, Jeryl and wife Sondra Rowe, Lynchburg, VA, and Brandon and wife Megan Rowe, DEL; two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Katherine Rowe; three step granddaughters, Beth and husband Ernie Johnson, Ivanhoe, NC, Amy Freeman, Cary, NC, Wendy and husband Asher Smale, Guntersville, Alabama; five step great grandsons, Matthew and Michael Matas, Jon Eric Johnson, and A. J. and Nathan Smale; one step great granddaughter, Ariel Smale; and several nephews and nieces. The family would like to express thanks to Gentiva Home Health Care and to a special care giver, Marie McGee. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2009, at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren with Rev. Joe May and Rev. Jim Griffith officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant View Church of Brethren Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home.
