Shirley,
This is off the subject, but wondered if you had any info on the John Bailey on the 1790 census of Edgefield SC. I fully understand that you are researching the Allen Bailey line in Edgefield and Abbeville.
Possible I have not dug enough into Deeds, wills of Edgefield. But I can see how your Bailey line and mine are living amounst each other, even though they are not related.

Here is an example, Thomas Murrah and John Kimbrell are both related to my William and Martin Bailey;
Edgefield County, South Carolina; Deed Books 13, 14, 15 Abstracted by Carol Wells Heritage Books, Inc
p.73
p. 445 Thomas Murrah’s deposition for John Kimbrell. 16 October 1797 before Rd Tutt J P, Thomas Murrah sworn, saith that in an affray on 23 Sept last between John Kimbrel and Allan Baily, deponent saw Allan Baily bite a part of sd John Kimbrel’s right ear off; Rd Tutt. /a/ Thomas Murrah. Rec 16 Oct 1797

I have 2 questions that maybe you could help answer. I believe the Elizabeth Bailey on the 1790 census doesnt belong to your Allen Bailey line. James and wife Elizabeth were buying land in the early 1800's, so it wasnt that Elizabeth. Have you found any other evidence that she belongs to your line??
And also The only other name I cannot place is the John Bailey on the 1790 Edgefield census. I havent been able to place him in either of our families. Have you found any evidence or information on him in your research?

Thanks for your time, and look forward to sorting these families out. Mary Bailey
