Luella Mae Bray, 91, died on January 8, 2008, in Banning. Luella was the loving wife and companion of artist Carl G. Bray for 68 years. She was born in Pierpont, SD on August 3, 1916, to Joseph and Nettie Chambers Baillie.

Luella left Pierpont in the late 1930's to work on a dude ranch in Montana. From there she traveled to Southern California where she met her future husband, Carl. They were married in 1939. During World War II she worked in the defense industry as a "Rosie the Riveter." For a couple of years they lived in Mecca and then for many years in El Monte. In 1953 they moved to Indian Wells where they lived for fifty years. They have lived in Banning Estates for the last few years.

A lifelong activist in her churches, Luella sang in the choirs, was a deaconess, and served as president of the women's groups. She spent several years as curator of her husband Carl's art galleries in Indian Wells and Taos, NM and at his art shows.

She was a lifelong adventurer, traveling with Carl throughout the U.S., Mexico, Asia and Europe. She was proudest of her role of her role as a devoted mom and grandmother.

She is predeceased by her parents; her stepfather, Henry Jenner; and her three sisters, Marian Clark, Mildred Taylor, and Harriett Broderick.

She is survived by her husband, Carl G. Bray; children Mary Weinhold (Bill), Sylvia Bray (Bernardo Larque), J. Patrick Bray (Linda), Michael Bray (Patt); and grandchildren Scott Weinhold (Jamey), Shana Moore (Chris), Patrick Weinhold (Mai), Sonja Koon (Joel), Robin McCain (Michael), Holly Bray, Frances Horn (Ira), Christopher Bray and Conor Bray; and great grandchildren Sebastian, Max and Aiden Weinhold; Finn, Matthew, Abigail and Owen Moore; Trinh and Vinh Weinhold; Elizabeth McCain, Monica, Morgan and Megan Horn.

A memorial service is scheduled at 11:00 Monday, January 14, 2008 at the Fellowship of The Pass Baptist Church in Beaumont. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer you donate in Luella's name to the charity of your choice.
