Baily family 1800'

I am looking for information regarding the family Stephen Baily. Our family has always thought that our grgrgrandfather was James Bailey. Recently I have found out through the 1860 census for Warren Co. MO that hsi name was Stephen J. (James?) Baily. He married an Elizabeth Schier (Schuer, Scheuer, Scheur) possibly in Carondelet or St. Louis, MO around 1848. Around 1852 or 53 he and Elizabeth had a daughter named Mary in the state of Texas. I was told that he was careet army, but now am not sure. They left Texas and had their next child, Josephine (my grgrandmother) in MO around 1855. In the 1860 census there is also listed a son named Stephen and James both born in MO. I have found Stephen J. in land records for MO and he fought for Michigan in the Civil War. He died in Brownsville Arkansas in 1864. In 1870 Elizabeth is listed as a widow and has more children who are Timothy, John, and Anne. James is not listed.

Any help in finding information on this family would be a real help.

Thank you,
Diane H.
