Hi Dave, scanning the Baines Forum by chance I had missed something previously and came across your ad. my ggggrandfather was james baines and from what I can gather was born approximately late 1700's and died 1842 (he is not on 1842 census and have listings of his business in directories till 1842). I have no idea where he was born but his occupation was engineer/mechanic. His family resided in Manchester, Lancashire. I have been looking for his birth place for quite a few years now and yours is the nearest I have. His father was possibly William - I am presuming this because his eldest son was William and this usually followed on didn't it. Please reply with any info you have by chance I can connect with what I have - thanks, maureen
