Hi Jennifer, just received your e-mail. I do not know if we are related but cannot rule you out as William could possibly be the brother of my ggggrandfather James Baines. All of the names you mention are in my family and as you know they did repeat names. Unfortunately my James Baines, senior, was not on the 1841 census so I do not know where he originated from. As a matter of interest do you know the occupations of your gggrandfathers. I have seen the clipper ship James Baines on the internet. I shall keep your family in mind - you do the same with me as they did travel so much in those days. As a matter of interest my James baines, senior was an Engineer/Mechanic. We are supposed to have French blood but as yet have not been able to find it. Also amongst my family there was an artist my mother remembers the painting he did - of himself holding a violin. He had jet black hair and of course a beard as they all did in those days - art does run through our family I myself paint so wondering if any in your family do as this gene does run through families a lot. Keep in touch - regards maureen
