Present or accounted for through September 1864.
He served with Company C, 19th NC Troops (2d NC Cavalry), Gates County, NC.
Obituary:
William Benjamin Baines died Friday at the residence of his daughter, 443
East First Street. He was born April 8, 1842 at Nansemond County, VA., and
served in the Confederate Army. Surviving him are his daughter, Mrs. W. T.
Brown of Jacksonville, one sister Mrs. Jennie Riddick, and three brothers,
Charles, Frank, and John Baines all of Nansemond County, Virginia. The
funeral will take place today at 3:30 p.m. from the residence of his
daughter, Mrs. Brown, 443 East First Street, Rev. E. E. Steinyer conducting
the services. The pallbearers will be H.B. Kurzhals, C.C. Quaintance, H.B.
Bennett, E.W. Bryant, C.D. Futch, and E.M. Morgan. The arrangements are in
charge of Moulton and Kyle. (Deaths and Funerals column, Florida Times Union

BROWN - Mrs. Ernestine (Ernest) B. Brown, widow of W.T.Brown, who lived
at 3136 Belden Circle, died Sunday evening in a local hospital. Mrs, Brown
was born in Gates, N.C., and had lived in Jacksonville since 1917. She was a
member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Paige
Knoderer, this city; three sons Sherwood Bown, this city, William Thurman
Brown and John Earl Brown, Atlanta, and two grandchildren. Hardage and Sons
Northside Funeral Home is in charge. (Copied as printed in Florida Times
