Marcus L. Belt

I am looking for information on Marcus L. Belt for whom the town Belton, Mo. was named. I am President of the Pearland, Texas Historical Society. Pearland, Texas was platted in 1894. Prior to that time it was called "Mark Belt". There is no history information about Mark Belt; but we have new information which leads me to believe the Mark Belt in Pearland, Texas in 1887 was Marcus Lindsy Belton. I know he was in Texas engaged in the cattle business with A. A. Talmage at that time. Many people have thought the name Mark Belt was simply a railroad term; but now we have strong reason to believe Marcus Belt is the Mark Belt we are looking for. Any information would be appreciated.
