John William Benthall Sr., had 5 children by Amanda Lee (?) with Charles Duncan (CD) or Charlie as the oldest and John William Jr. as about #3. The other were daughters, Ada, Ida and Addie. John Sr.'s second wife was Miranda Wilmeth and they had Vollie (male), Christine and Jeanette. John and Miranda died when the 3 youngest were young and at some time part of them lived with or near Charlie and his wife Emma (who was Miranda's daughter by her first marriage).
John Sr.'s father was William Alfred Benthall and his mother was Christine Lellie. They may have lived in Louisiana before coming to Texas, William and John Sr., that is. All children of John Sr. were reportedly born in Bell CO., Texas. Charlie and Emma married in Bell CO. and had 2 children born in TX and the 7 others in Indian Territory and Garvin Co. OK. I can find very little info on the Benthall's origin. I have been told Denmark but belive maybe England, via what route to TX. is unclear. It is said that John Sr. ferried goods from LA. to TX. via mule train.
