Jason,
Perhaps you can find a connection in this information. My GGGgrandfather was James W. Bishop b.3/16/1806 in S.C. and died 7/11/1883 in Erath County TX. He raised his family in Marshall Co. AL on Sand Mountain at a little community called Red Apple which is no longer in existance.
We believe his wife to have been named Jane but no more is known about her.
Their children were;
Attison Lafayette Bishop b. 8/17/1837 in Red Apple, AL d. 5/22/1914 in Franklin County, AL
Mary Ann Bishop Scott b. 5/13/1840 Red Apple, AL d. 10/5/25 in Erath County, TX
Sara or Sarah Bishop b. 1844 (that's all we currently know about Sara).

I am descended of Attison Lafayette Bishop who moved his very large family from Marshall County to Franklin County in 1894 or 1895.
Mary Ann married William Attison Scott in 1857 and they headed for Texas in 1870. W.A. Scott was killed in an Indian raid on the trip west and Mary Ann went on to Texas with their children. It is not known if her father, James W. Bishop was already in Texas, was with them on the wagon train or went out to take care of his widowed daughter and her three children.
Is it possible that these two Bishop men knew each other or were related (cousins? brothers?)in Marshall County and that James W. moved to Texas at the same time (sometime between 1850 and 1870)as the widow and children of John?
If you or anyone else might have some insight into the relation these two gentlemen shared, if any, please let me know. I'm up against a rock wall here and need someone to help me dislodge the next stone.
sincerely,
Tom Bishop
