At this moment research on my Bishop line seems to indicate it first appears in Southeastern Pennsylvania in the 1730s. The family miagrated from there to Southwest Virginia, to East Tennessee, and to Union County, Georgia, and westward from there. The line appears to have ooriginated in what is now part of Germany. The name was originally was spelled Bischoff, but was changed to Bishop after their arrival in the new world.

DNA genealogy utilizes the genetic markers on the male X chormosome which passes with very little variation from father to son for generations. Lineages can be proved with a high degree accuracy by comparing these markers on the DNA of male descendants of known ancestors. This is why the more men who get tested, the greater is the possibility of connecting related individuals thus proving family lineages. Many female genealogists participate in this process by having their brothers or fathers tested.
