According to FamilySearch.org, John's parents were Fontaine W Bishop and Eliza Ann Profitt. They were married 15 May 1838 in Greenbrier, Va. Couldn't find them in 1840, but in 1850 they were in Albermarle, Va., and F W Bishop was 35, Lucy (probably Lizzie) was 31, William 14, Sarah 11, James 9, Edward 7, John 5, Julia Ann 3 and Lucy 1. In 1860, 1870 and 1880 they were in Buckingham Co., and it was the Slate River District in 1880.The ages varied from census to census by almost 10 years in some cases. In 1900, John's birth is given as Aug., 1848, and he's still in Slate River. His brothers and sisters are in the next dwelling. Other siblings born after 1850 were Joseph 1855, Henry 1857, Charles 1858, Bettie F 1862 and Mary C (Mollie) 1865. Fontaine died 20 May 1891 in Slate River. Hope this helps.
