Rev. John Bishop 1640 Taunton, MA

I am doing research on Reverand John Bishop of Stamford, CT 1644 - 1694. I think I have found evidence that he may not be the John Bishop from Cattistock, County Dorset, England who received his BA in 1632, and his MA in 1635 from Balliol College in Oxford and was sent to be the rector of Batcombe, County Dorset in 1636.

There is a preserved document signed by Rector John Bishop as witness to the signing of the Protestation of 1641 by all men aged 18 and over in Batcombe. This document had to be signed after May 5, 1641 because that is the date it was published and given to the members of Parliment to be distributed to the parishes of England.

If this is so, then that John Bishop could not be the John Bishop who was in Taunton in 1640 and who ordained Master Hooke as reported by Thomas Lechford on January, 17, 1641.

Does anyone have any idea where the John Bishop of Taunton might have come from otherwise?
