I am so excited to receive your message. I have been searching for descendants of William and Sarah. Matthew Bishop b.1838 in Emanuel County,Georgia, son of William and Sarah Coleman, is the brother to my ggg-Grandfather William C. Bishop. In search for information on William C. Bishop, I found Matthew's service record for his service in the War Between the States--along with the service records of ALL the sons of William and Sarah. Also, I found that Matthew married Martha Pritchard about 1858. That is all I have on Matthew--I have been told that he moved away from Emanuel County after 1865. Four sons of William and Sarah are buried at Bishop Chapel Cemetery in Emanuel County. These four sons are going to be recognized on June 7, 2009 by the local chapter of the UDC. The fifth son is buried in Emanuel County (at another cemetery) and I had completely failed to find information on Matthew--although we do plan to acknowledge that he was a son of William and Sarah and that he was a Private in Company C, 1st (Olmstead's) Infantry, Confederate Army, enlisting on July 30, 1862 and paroled on May 25, 1865, at Albany, Georgia. I had "hear say" information that he moved to Berrien County, Georgia, after the Civil War.

Is any of the information I have on Matthew correct? Do you know where he is buried?

Please accept this special invitation to represent Matthew at the Grave Marking and Iron Cross Dedication Service on June 7th. If you have any information on Matthew's descendants, I would appreciate anything you will share.

Although, we "think" Matthew's brother, Alfred Bishop, is buried at Bishop chapel Cemetery and we do planned to mark a grave that has been identified as Alfred's, we are not 100% sure and I have been searching for descendants of Alfred--with little luck.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Barbara Stokes
