The following is some info that I have collected on William W. Bishop Sr. He was my gt-gt-gt grandfather. I will be happy to share my info on the Bishop family with anyone who is interested. Just email me direct and let me know what info you need and I will be happy to share.

In 1850, William W. Bishop was listed in the Scott Co., Virginia Census record as follows:

William W. Bishop 70 - Male 2,000 value of property
George W. Bishop 23 - "
Polly (name should be Ollie - female
Nancy M. 2 - female
Elias F. 1 - male

They lived next door to his nephew, Jesse Bishop, son of Samuel Bishop.

In all census records prior to 1850, William Bishop was either living alone or only had children living with him. There was no sign of either Elizabeth Pogue (supossed 1st wife of William, or Fanny Walling, 2nd wife of William). If William was married to Elizabeth Pogue, where was she in the 1820 census? In 1830, William did not have a wife in his household either, so question is where was Fanny? Evidently they had already split up and she was living with her younger children without William. So the mystery is who was William W. Bishop Jr., Sarah Ann Bishop; and George W. Bishop's mother?

In 1820; 1821; 1822; 1823; 1825; & 1826 - North District - Scott Co., Va., William Bishop paid taxes on the following land:
100 acres - Flat Lick, (Residence) 15 miles N.W. of the courthouse. (transferred from John Bishop, as per the list of the Clerk of Court Scott Co., Va
320 acres located on both sides of Lick Branch (residence) - 15 miles N.W. of the Courthouse.
150 acres near the flat lick - 15 miles N.W. of the Courthouse.

1827 - William paid the taxes on the following land:
150 acres near Flat Lick
320 acres on boths sides of Lick Branch - 15 miles N.W. of Courthouse
100 acres on the Flat Lick - 15 miles N.W. of the Courthouse
(NOTE: The 100 acres was transferred from Nathan Richardson agents of the estate of Nathaniel Taylor, dec'd as per list from Clerk of Court. This tract formerly charged to Wm. Bishop, Samuel, & Sampson Bishop)

19 Mar. 1851 - William Bishop Sr., of Scott Co. Va. to Sarah Wallin, formerly Sarah Bishop, George Bishop of Scott Co., Va. for $500 my maintenance during my natural life and for $1.00 in hand paid, land containg 92 acres cornor to William Bishop Jr.

Signed: William (X) Bishop Acknowledged 19 March 1851

19 March, 1851 - William Bishop Sr. of Scott Co., VA to William Bishop Jr. of same Co. for $500.00 and for maintenance during my natural life, land in Scott Co., Va., 120 acres on Samuel Bishop's old line.

Signed: William (X) Bishop Acknowledged 19 March 1851

William W. Bishop was born in 1780 in Pa. He was mentioned in a land deed between his father, John, Bishop, and the six sons on August 30, 1819 in Scott Co, VA. He died on May 13, 1865 in Scott Co, VA. (Family Bible Record)

There was a marriage record found in Washington Co., Va for William Bishop and Elizabeth Pogue ca 1812. Some other researchers claimed this marriage for another William Bishop (probably the English descended Bishops). There is no proof that our William Bishop was married to Elizabeth Pogue.

William Bishop had the following children by some unknown women. The mother of these 3 children could possibly have been Native American, as I have heard there was Indian blood in this family.

i. William W. Bishop Jr. (born on December 24, 1820).
ii. Sarah Bishop was born on April 1, 1822.
iii. George Bishop was born on June 15, 1823.

William was married to Francis "Fanny" Walling on May 25, 1825. He was divorced from Francis "Fanny" Walling in 1853. Fanny was not allowed to remarry but William was, although, I don't think he ever did. This usually happened when one party committed adultry. I have also heard just recently that Fanny Walling Bishop ran a so 'CatHouse' and that her daughter Letisha was in it with her.

In 1850 census, Fanny was listed as head of household and had her daughter, Letisha Wallin, Letisha's son George W. Wallin, and Fanny's son Elias F., wife Nancy and son Samuel P. Bishop also in the household.

As shown above, in 1850, William W. Bishop Sr, was listed as Head of household with his son George W. Bishop and his wife Ollie and daughter Nancy M and son Elias F.

Francis "Fanny" Walling was born in 1785 in NC. She moved to Letcher Co., Ky, along with her son Elias and his family and her daughter Letisha sometime after her divorce from William Bishop in 1853. Fanny and William's daughter Mary Ann 'Nancy' Bishop, wife of Abraham Miller Jr. also moved to Kentucky about this same time. After Abraham died, Mary Ann later moved to Missouri with her children. William W. Bishop and Francis "Fanny" Walling had the following children:

+24 i. Mary Ann 'Nancy' Bishop (born in May 1829).
+25 ii. Elias F. Bishop
+26 iii. Letitia Bishop (born in 1830). (possibly not William Bishop's daughter)
