There are two types of DNA test. The MtDNA test the female lines. It would show the origin for your mother's, mother's, mother's etc. The Y-DNA test shows the descent through the male line. I am assuming that your Blackwell name comes from the illegitmate child being given it's mother's last name. Since you don't know the name of the real father (a Non-Paternal Event) the DNA test would not show you the Blackwell line, but it might allow you to find out who the father of the child was. The test results would most likely match another last name and if there was someone by that last name in the area where your Blackwell's lived, then the father was more than likely from that family.
