The father of James Blackwell (b. abt. 1755) who was married to Elizabeth Price is not yet known for certain and because of so many lost records it is hard to document. I personally believe that what evidence there is shows that his father is a James Blackwell who was born in about 1734. He is the James Blackwell mentioned in Lunenburg records in 1751 as being the orphan son of a James Blackwell. He was bound out to William Burgamy and he is listed over the next few years in the Lunenburg records being involved in a number of suits and seems to have been put in jail for awhile. He is also probably the James Blackwell that Charles Newman Blackwell, the orphan of Charles Blackwell, chooses as his guardian in 1763. On 13 Apr 1765, James Blackwell is required by the court in Lunenburg Co., Virginia to pay his uncle, John Blackwell, for 32-days attendance in court and the cost of coming and going fifteen miles from his home in Charlotte County (formally Cornwall Parish in Lunenburg County), to testify in a court case. (This John and James are mentioned in the tax list in the late 1740's and early 1750's) He may be the James Blackwell who is found in Halifax County in Sep 1769 whose taxes were used to help maintain a road. John Price, the father of Elizabeth, died in Halifax in 1772 and his will was proved in that year.
