Donna.. I have collected a lot of notes on Bowman families in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Ohio in my search for my own line.

My notes are arranged chronologically, by county. Here is the info I think is helpful for you... I included all of my info from Columbiana, Stark, Preble and Mahoning counties.. just in case some of the probably unrelated Bowman families turn out to be useful for you.

You might notice first in the Stark County notes that Henry Bowman of York Co., PA bought land in 1805. I think this is the elder Henry in your query.

Let me know if you have questions.. I hope it helps:

COLUMBIANA Co., OH (formed in 1803)
1804 - Isaac BOWMAN from Beaver Co PA buys land on 23 November.

1806 - Isaac BOWMAN of Columbiana Co buys land in Stark Co on 3 January and 2 May.

1810 - Christian, Isaac, Jacob, John, Michael & Philip BOWMAN on tax list.

Michael BOWMAN (16 Dec 1785) fought in the War of 1812 under Capt. John Elson. Married (1) Martha Wiggins and (2) Rachel (Bair) Elson on 9 Sept 1832 in Stark Co., OH. They had David Elson (6 Sept 1833) md. Christiana Krieger on 24 Sept 1854 in Stark Co. (son of Henry of York PA?)

Philip BOWMAN (b. 25 October 1755) said in his Rev. War pension application that he was born in Little York PA and lived in Fredericktown, Frederick CO., MD when he enlisted. After the war he moved to Fayette Co., PA and in 1806, he settled in Columbiana Co., OH.

He married Sarah Walter (b. 24 May 1797 PA - d. 31 March 1872 OH), daughter of Matthias & Anna Maria (Knauss) Walter (b. 1767 PA - d. after 1850 OH) on 21 June 1814 in Columbiana Co., OH.        He married Catherine “Caty” Fast/Faust before 1779 in Fayette Co., PA. They had ten children: Elizabeth, John J., Christian, Joshua, Keziah, John Nicholas, Sarah, Rebecca, Catherine and Charlotte.
(I assumed they had a son named David (See Columbiana Co.) and moved to Mahoning Co. in 1808, but I must be mistaken).
Philip died on 17 January 1845 in Ellsworth Twp, Mahoning Co., OH.

Jacob and Susanna had at least four children: Jacob (1777-1859), Samuel (1779/1782-1856), John and _(female)_ Clark. All four moved to Stark Co., OH between 1810-1817.
