Fortune must smile on those who ask for her favor. Doing a brief review of old notes I came across the source on the Bowmans of Alexander and Catawba counties which you asked about. Pure luck. "Historical Sketches of Alexander County, North Carolina, Friendship Lutheran, Hopewell Reformed & Charity Baptist Churches and of the Bowman and Fry Families," by the Rev. A. L. Crouse, published in 1905. Apparently a relatively recent researcher of this Bowman family republished the original work, but I have no dates for this, only this name and address: Thomas P. Bowman, Rt. 6 Box 179, Taylorsville, N.C. 28681. The notes on the Bowman family began on page 55 of the pamphlet. Briefly summarized, Gen 1, Daniel George/George Daniel Bowman, m. ___ Bolch, born in Germany, migrated to Penn. and from thence to N.C. settling on Lyles Creek near Bolch relatives at a site about 2.5 mi west of Conover in Catawba Co.. Gen 2: John (m. Rebecca Bolch, dau of John, moved on to Caldwell Co.), Henry (m. Betsy Bolch, d. of John), David (m. Elizabeth Simmons), Samuel, George, Daniel, Barabara (m. Peter Herman), and Mary. Gen 3: John had sons John, Anthony and Henry; Henry had John (m. Anne Bollinger dau. of Leon), Sebastian (m. Mollie Houser) and Mollie m. Henry Propst; David had Sallie (m. Elijah Price), John (m. Lydia Rader, they had 3 daus. no sons), Mary (m. Harrison Starnes), Daniel (m. Barbara Catherine Little), Susie, Lydia, Catherine, Lewis, Mima and Harriet.
Gen. 4 notes were limited to descendants of Henry and Betsy Bolch. John and Anne Bollinger had Francis (n.m.), Delia (n.m.) Sena (m. John Murphy but had no children), Urias (m1 Harriet Starr, m2 Calla Starr, Harriet's sister), Mitie (n.m.), Alonzo (m1 ___ Hudson, m2 Harriet Linn), and Myreda (m. William Linn); Sebastian and Mollie had Rhoda Emaline (m. Jaconius Bolch), Cora Ann (m. Henry Sigmon), George West, Calvin Monroe (served as Confederate soldier, taken prisoner and held at Point Lookout died shortly after his release from that camp), and Frances Saphronia (m. Abel Pinkney Miller). My notes include no dates of birth, death or marriage.
