Sanford Bowman was born in Georgia. I also believe that he is probably related to William Bowman and possibly the John Bowman who was the only Bowman on the 1840 Coosa County, Alabama Census but I don't have any proof. I just discovered that Sanford Bowman was a bigamist. He was charged with bigamy in Shelby County, Alabama. He married Axey Cooper in 1843 and then married a Leah Watterson in 1849 in Shelby County Alabama while still married to Axey. I have never been able to find Sanford on a census record. I think he was probably hiding out somewhere for several years to avoid prosecution. Leah Waterson divorced him in 1853.
