Found the following in "Beyond These Gates" a book about folks buried in Oak Hill Cemetary, Battle Creek, MI: Lot 46-C: Brainard, Charles Wesley, from 1898 until his retirement 40 tears later, was a leading figure in the city's (Battle Creek) business life. Born on a farm near Climax (MI), in 1868, he was the son of Charles W. and Mary McFarland Brainard. He came to Battle Creek to attend business college and held positions at the Plush Album Company, and the Ward Milling Company, before joining Union Steam Pump as bookeeper. He became secretary-treasurer, and in 1921 became president succeeding the late Charles E. Kolb, and retired in 1938. He was married in 1888 to Sarah Cosette Robinson, the daughter of George H. and Sarah Campbell Robinson. She was born in Hastings (MI), where her son, Dr. Clifford Brainard, was married to Miss Aimee Reakes in 1921. Sarah Brainard died in 1944 at the age of 78, and her husband, Charles, died the following year at the age of 1977.
