I am searching for information regarding Rebecca Brooks Brainard family. The following is the information that I have so far:

Rebecca Brooks was b. 14 Feb 1788 in Haddam, CT, d/o Joseph Brooks and (Jemima?) Shaylor. As far as I know she was the oldest of four siblings.

Her siblings were: Wakeman Brooks, b. 1790, m. (1st) Anna Ely; m. (2nd) Caroline Mathilda Flowers; Catherine Shaylor Brooks m. William Mathews; Jemima m. Stephen Hubbard. These children were from Joseph's first marriage, his first wife died shortly after the youngest child was b., and he married a Ms. Hubbard and had several children with her.

According to an old Brooks Family Genealogy, Rebecca m. a Mr. Brainard. There is no further information on this family in the old genealogy.

Milton Brooks, oldest s/o Wakeman Brooks and Anna Ely, m. a Sarah Ann Brainard. Sarah was b. abt. 1816 in CT, and Milton was b. abt. 1816 in W. Springfield, Hampden Co., MA. They were m. 1836/1837 and had the following children:

Mary Brooks, b. 1840 who m. 10 Apr 1859 in Bradford Co., PA, Theodore Watson, b. 26 Dec 1828 in Greene, Chenango Co., NY. They had at least one daughter, Alice, b. 17 Dec 1859 in Springfield Twp., Bradford Co., PA. Alice m. 30 Mar 1886 Greeley Voorhis, and they adopted a daughter, Annie. Mary is buried in Waverly, NY.

Davis Brainard Brooks, b. 1844, who m. Nancy Isabell. They had several children: Henry, b. 1872; William D. b. 1874; Mary Alice, b. 1877, m. 6 Jun 1906 Denton G. Ballard, b. 1878, and they had a daughter Marian Edwina, b. 1911 who m. Almon R. Baxton, b. 1908, they had two children (still living); Frank A., b. 1879; and Anna L., b. 1884, m. George C. Reynolds. Henry, William, and Frank are buried in the Ulster Cemetery, Ulster Twp., Bradford Co., PA.

Annie Belle Brooks, b. 1847, m. David C. Leonard. They had one son, Archibald. Annie Belle and David are buried in the Big Pond Cemetery, Springfield Twp., Bradford Co., PA.

George Brooks, b. abt. 1850. No further information.

Sarah and Milton are buried in the Leona Cemetery, Springfield Twp., Bradford Co., PA.

I have long suspected that Sarah Ann Brainard was a cousin of her husband, Milton Brooks, and a daughter of Rebecca Brooks Brainard. This notion is furthered by information found in the 1870 Census for Ulster Twp., Bradford Co., PA, household 32 - F. S. Brooks, male, age 28, CT; Sarah Ann Brooks, female, age 50, CT; Beckes Brainard, female, age 82, CT; George Brooks, age 20, CT.

Is there anyone out there that can confirm for me who Rebecca's husband was, when they married, the names of their children (was Sarah Ann indeed a daughter), and where Rebecca and her husband are buried? I also would like further information regarding descendants of any of these people.

Thank you in advance for any information you can provide. I am a descendant of Rebecca's brother, Wakeman Brooks.

Lynne B. Howell
